Senate Bill No. 72
Position: Support
Brief Description:
The South Dakota Catholic Conference supports the passage of Senate Bill 72, which would codify a standardized form abortion facilities must use in communicating relevant information to a mother prior to an abortion. Currently, abortion facilities use consent forms that undermine the spirit of state law. South Dakota statutes require mothers to be informed that an abortion terminates the life of a whole, separate, unique human being, and that they have a pre-existing, legally-recognized relationship with their baby. SB 72 would strengthen existing law by standardizing the form in which mothers receive these truthful statements about the life of their child.
