The South Dakota Catholic Conference supports passage of SCR 602, a legislative resolution that affirms support for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the high court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade and its creation of a national entitlement to abortion.
Regarding the Roe decision, the text of SCR 602 states “…from 1973 to 2022, this decision allowed for the legal ending of the life of thousands of pre-born people in this state.”
The Dobbs ruling is a momentous decision that will once again allow the sanctity of life to be protected by law. However, grave injustices remain within the nation’s laws, and the fight for justice must continue. All South Dakotans should join in the effort to support mothers and fathers facing challenging pregnancies, and offer real support, hope, and love.
